OJD Courts ePay FAQs

Below you'll find a list of the most commonly asked questions when using OJD Courts ePay.


General Questions

You may use OJD Courts ePay to make a payment on financial obligations owed in criminal and violation cases after a judgment has been entered against you.

For violation cases, you may use OJD Courts ePay to check if your violation is eligible for reduction, enter a No Contest plea, and pay your fine.

However, if you received a violation or citation you may not use OJD Courts ePay if:

  • You received a citation for a violation and the officer did not write the fine amount on the citation but indicated that you must appear at court.
  • You received a citation for a violation that requires a mandatory appearance, such as speeding over 100 miles per hour or careless driving.
  • You wish to enter a plea of Not Guilty and request a trial.
  • You have already plead Not Guilty and requested a trial.​​​
  • You received a citation for a crime and the cou​rt has not entered a judgment against you.
  • You received a notice from the court requiring you to a​ppear at the court for a hearing.​

Yes. A $1.50 processing fee is assessed per transaction. You will be able to review all charges prior to submitting payment.​​

OJD Courts ePay is generally available 24/7, however, the system may be down from time to time due to maintenance. A notice will be posted on the website when the system is unavailable due to maintenance.​​

OJD Courts ePay is compatible with modern internet browsers on PC and Mac computers.​

OJD Courts ePay should be compatible with most modern internet browsers on mobile devices. If you encounter any issues making a payment, please contact the court​ listed on your citation or case documents.

Payment Questions

We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover credit cards, along with debit cards​.​

The case will record receipt of the payment within 24 hours.

It may take the court up to 24 hours to credit payment to your case. To avoid the possibility of your payment being late, view other options for making a payment.​

The court will not deduct the amount of the payment from the balance owed on your case if your credit card is rejected.  You will receive a notification if your credit card is rejected.  You may make a payment using another credit or debit card or contact the court​ to make a payment by a different method, such as cash or check.

Yes, you may use OJD Courts ePay to make a partial payment on your closed violation or criminal court case. If you are not on a payment plan and would like to be, please ​contact the court​.

Questions About Violation Cases and Reductions

It may take as much as 10-15 days for a citation to be available for online payment. Parking citations in Multnomah County (Portland area) take at least 48 hours to be available for online payment.​

You can resolve most violation citations through OJD Courts ePay without appearing at the court.  If you want to resolve your case using OJD Courts ePay, you must do so before the day and time the citation requires you to appear in court.  By using the OJD Courts ePay system, you agree to enter a no contest plea and waive your right to a trial.  The court will close your case after you pay the full amount of the fine and the court accepts your payment.

However, you may not use OJD Courts ePay if:

  • You received a citation for a violation and the officer did not write the fine amount on the citation but indicated that you must appear at court.
  • You received a citation for a violation that requires a mandatory appearance, such as speeding over 100 miles per hour or careless driving.
  • You wish to enter a plea of Not Guilty and request a trial.
  • You have already plead Not Guilty and requested a trial.​​​
  • You received a citation for a crime and the cou​rt has not entered a judgment against you.
  • You received a notice from the court requiring you to a​ppear at the court for a hearing.​​​​

Yes, if your violation is eligible. The system will guide you through requesting an online reduction. By accepting a reduction offer, you are entering a plea of No Contest and will be responsible for paying the fine amount.
You may be offered a fine reduction if:
  • The citation is for an eligible state traffic or state parking violation.​ 
    • ​Please review the Chief Justice Order​ for more information about eligibility, ​keeping in mind that some violation offenses (such as speeding over 100 miles per hour) are not eligible for online payment or reduction using ePay.
  • There is an Oregon driver’s license number listed on your citation.​
  • Your driving record reflects two or fewer convictions in the last three years.
If you are not offered an online reduction and have questions, please contact the court​​ listed on your citation for additional information.​

​The Central Violations Bureau considers many factors to determine if you are eligible for an online fine reduction. In some circumstances, you still may be eligible for a reduction through the court. If you fall into one of the categories listed below, you may contact the court before the ‘appear by date’ listed on your citation to see if you are eligible for a fine reduction.

  • The citation is for a local parking or traffic citation. Here is additional information about parking citations​ issued by the City of Portland.
  • You do not have a current Oregon driver’s license.
  • The citation contains at least one charge that is not eligible for reduction. Examples include speeding over 100 miles per hour, careless driving, and wildlife violations. 
  • The citation is issued to a corporation, not an individual. 
  • You have plead Not Guilty and asked for a trial or have resolved some, but not all, of the charges listed on your citation.
  • Your driving record is not reported by the Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles.


You may still be eligible for a fine reduction through OJD Courts ePay. However, if you choose to enter a plea of No Contest and pay online, you forfeit the option to resolve your citation in any other way.

If you are inte​rested in the officer offered alternative resolution, ​​such as taking a driving class or fixing a cited issue (e.g., a broken taillight), before paying online, ​contact the court​​ listed on your citation before the "appear by" date to discuss your options.

​By entering a plea of No Contest, it means that you are not admitting guilt, yet you are not contesting the facts on the citation. You are assuming the responsibility of the citation and the imposed fine, whether it be reduced or the presumptive fine (fine listed on the citation).​

You may be eligible for a fine reduction based on providing your out of state driving history. Please contact the court​ where you are assigned to appear prior to the ‘appear by date’ located on your citation.​​​

No, if you would like to submit a letter to the court explaining the circumstances of the violation, you must do the following:
  • Send or take your citation to the court before the day and time the citation requires you to appear at the court.
  • Attach a written statement explaining the circumstances of the violation(s) charged.​​

No. If you wish to enter a not guilty plea and request a trial, you must:
  • Contact the court on or before the "appear by" date on the citation to enter a plea of not guilty and request a trial.​

Yes. ​You can use OJD Courts ePay to pay the fine imposed by the court.

Questions About Other Types of Cases

No, OJD Courts ePay only accepts payments on violation and closed criminal cases. For civil or family cases, please contact the court or review other options for making a payment.​​

Your case may be one of the types of cases where you cannot make a payment using OJD Courts ePay.  You will need to choose another option for making a payment​
